Ukerewe, Tanzania

Ukerewe is the largest island in Lake Victoria as well as the largest island in Africa. Monarch Beach Resort is one kilometer from the Ferry Terminal to the west. From the Monarch Beach Resort one can take motor bike to a village located under the banana and orange trees; you can also go to the Halwe Viewpoint, the highest point on the island with rocks and caves. From the rondo viewpoint you will be able to view Mwanza city in Tanzania, Entebbe in Uganda and Nairobi in Kenya.

The shoreline of Ukerewe Island is carved into numerous bays and it is surrounded by 38 small islands surrounding the neighborhood, three of them unoccupied by humans and the other thirty-five are occupied by fishermen and their families. Some of the activities will include introductions to local fishing, canoeing, biking, and village tours.

Feother sites include agricultural activities in which the residents farm maize, sweet potatoes, millet, cassava and rice.
